After a couple years of sailing the high … um, space … seas … something? … we have made the difficult decision to discontinue our Mastodon instance at space-pirates.org.
Decentralization is an important idea, especially as more and more major social media platforms openly embrace fascism, bigotry, and evil, extending well beyond mere avarice.
Unfortunately, Mastodon's federation model is subject to economies of scale that make it unfeasible to run an instance with only a handful of active users, and this ended up becoming a very expensive (though still worthwhile!) experiment. If you had an account on our instance and enjoyed Mastodon, please stick with the platform; even a few mega-instances are better than one closed ecosystem.
